Seri Pusaka
Benefits of Seri Pusaka

What working with Seri Pusaka means for your family

A considered approach to inheritance legal matters — built on dual-framework expertise, a written process, and the steady conviction that families need time to think.

Six Qualities That Define Our Practice

Drawn from how we conduct each engagement, not from what we wish we were.

Dual-Framework Legal Expertise

Seri Pusaka holds working expertise in both civil estate law and Islamic succession law. For Malaysian families whose matters touch both frameworks, this means a single, coherent engagement rather than piecemeal advice from separate sources.

Everything Put in Writing

Every meeting produces a written summary. Every draft document is circulated in clean form before it is discussed. Clients are never left to reconstruct what was said from memory — they have a clear written record from the outset.

Paced for Family Deliberation

The timeline of each engagement is set by what the family needs, not by what would be most efficient for the practice. Time between stages is built in for family members to read, discuss, and return with questions.

Written Estate Maps Before Drafting

Before any document is prepared, we lay out each asset and the questions that apply to it in a written estate map. This gives families a clear view of the full picture before committing to any particular arrangement.

First Reply Listens, Does Not Propose

When a family writes to us for the first time, our reply summarises what we have understood and offers a written account of the questions we would want to discuss. We do not propose a course of action in the first exchange.

Strict and Sustained Confidentiality

Estate matters involve information that families rarely share widely. All information disclosed to Seri Pusaka is treated with full professional confidentiality and is never discussed outside the engagement.

Each Advantage in More Detail

Professional Expertise

The solicitors at Seri Pusaka have spent the greater part of their careers on estate and succession matters. This is not a practice that handles estate work alongside a general litigation or conveyancing caseload — it is the central and primary focus of what we do. That sustained attention over many years produces a depth of familiarity with the particular problems that estate matters present, including the ones that do not appear until the drafting stage.

  • Practice experience since 2008, estate matters exclusively
  • Postgraduate qualification in Islamic estate planning held by our senior associate
  • Experience with cross-jurisdictional and multi-asset estate matters

Written Process

The written process at Seri Pusaka is not incidental — it is the core of how we work. Before a consultation, we prepare notes on any documents shared. After a consultation, we prepare a summary. Before a document is finalised, we circulate clean drafts and invite written comments. This produces a record that families can return to at any point, and that reduces the likelihood of misunderstandings accumulating over the course of a long engagement.

  • Pre-consultation document review and preparation notes
  • Written summary after every meeting, in plain language
  • Clean draft documents circulated for review before discussion

Client Service

We take the view that estate matters are not purely legal matters — they are family matters that happen to require legal instruments. That means our engagements are shaped around the family's pace and communication preferences, not the other way round. We respond to written questions in writing, and we do not move to the next stage of an engagement until the family has indicated they are ready to do so.

  • Engagement pace set by the family's readiness, not a fixed schedule
  • Written questions welcome at any stage between meetings
  • Available in person or by written correspondence, as the family prefers

Transparent Pricing

Each engagement is priced clearly from the outset. The Heritage Consultation (MYR 1,170) is a fixed-fee arrangement covering preparation, the consultation itself, and the written summary. The Will and Wasiat Drafting Engagement (MYR 3,260) covers the full drafting process including review rounds. The Generational Estate Programme (MYR 6,610) covers the full multi-phase programme. There are no supplementary charges introduced mid-engagement without prior discussion.

  • Fixed engagement fees stated at the outset
  • No supplementary charges without prior written agreement
  • Engagement fee invoiced at commencement, not in multiple instalments by default

How We Differ from a General Legal Practice

Not a criticism of other firms — simply an account of what distinguishes an estate-focused practice from a general one.

Written Summaries After Meetings Not standard practice Standard at every consultation

What Makes Seri Pusaka Distinctive

Particular features of how we work that are less commonly found in the estate legal services market in Malaysia.

The Generational Estate Programme

A long-form, structured programme for families considering arrangements that span multiple generations. Quarterly written checkpoints, a private family conference, and a written estate map are included. This engagement type is uncommon among Malaysian law practices and is designed for families whose circumstances require sustained professional attention over a longer period.

The Written Estate Map

Before any document is drafted in the Generational Estate Programme, we prepare a written estate map identifying each asset and the considerations that apply to each pathway. Families receive this as a clear, readable document they can discuss privately before any decisions are made. It is a tool for thinking, not a legal instrument.

The Listening Reply

When a family writes to us for the first time, our response is a listening document — a written summary of what we have understood and the questions we would wish to explore. We do not begin with a proposal. This is a deliberate policy, and it reflects the approach we take throughout all our engagements.

Civil and Islamic Frameworks Together

Many Malaysian families find that their estate arrangements involve both civil and Islamic legal instruments. Seri Pusaka can manage both within a single engagement rather than directing clients to separate practices. This coherence reduces the risk of misalignment between instruments and avoids the inconvenience of managing multiple advisors.
